SOYBEAN GROWER UPDATE

PLANTATION SEED

SOYBEAN GROWER UPDATE

July 12, 2018

A good fungicide has proven to give a yield increase of 6-8 bu per acre over non-treated soybeans in university test. One spray per season is usally enough. To control  velvetbean caterpillar, and make loopers and stink bugs less of a pest, add Dimlin. Look close at your cotton, peanut, and soybean fields, especially if they are close to a corn field. There have been several generations in your corn already. Group 5-6 soybeans planted in  late May early June are now in R3. (  R-3 = Pods at least 3/16 inch on the fourth node from top of plant )  You lose some effectiveness if you apply too early.

If you have Three Cornered Alfalfa Hopper and/or Stinkbugs,  think about putting in some pesticide.  Watch for Three Cornered Alfalfa Hoppers, Kudzubugs and Stink bugs,  have been found in most fields.

For Information go to : http://www.kudzubug.org/grower.html

Good fungicide at R3 growth stage  **

Plus
Dimlin + 1.2 lbs of solubor per acre

Plus (For insect pest)
Acephate (Orthene),   Karate , Brigade ,  etc.

If you are trying for high yields now is the time ( R3) to put out 30 pounds of N per acre.

Soybean Update

Soybean Planting up until this point has been a challenging adventure. Growers who double cropped behind wheat are anywhere from a couple of weeks behind to a month plus due to adverse small grain harvesting conditions. With that being said, soybeans are very versatile in regards to planting dates. Pictured below is AGS 677LL planted behind Triticale around the 20th of June. They are transitioning from VC to V1 with the first trifoliate making its appearance. Some plants experienced what looks to be J hooking, which is when the cotyledons get stuck below the surface and meet a packed top layer of soil at emergence, causing the middle of the plant to eventually break, abruptly ending the soybean plants life.AGS 677LL was #1 in Tifton OVT @ 65.7 bu/a.Good growing,Jimmy, Lee, Lane, and Blake

SOYBEAN UPDATE 4/26/18

SOYBEAN UPDATE

April 26, 2018

Seeding rate  is one of the first steps toward a good yield. Soybeans have from 2200 seed per lb to 4500 seed per lb.  Do not go by pounds per acre .  30” rows at 8 seed per foot will use 59 pounds per acre of a 2250 seed/lb soybean and only 41.4 pounds per acre of a 3600 seed/lb. soybean.  You want about 145,000 seed per acre for normal planting dates. Call if you plan to plant HIGH yield irrigated soybeans this year.

SEEDING RATE

36” rows  9-10 seed per foot

30” rows  8- 9 seed per foot

21 to 24” rows  6- 7 seed per foot

15 to 16” rows  5- 6 seed per foot

  7 ½  to 8” rows  2- 4 seed per foot

Twin peanut type rows  5-7 seed  per foot

LATE PLANTING

If you are planning to plant after June 30, please order your beans now and ask your dealer to advise your seedsman to place these late planted beans in cool storage. This will maximize your chance of getting high germing soybeans for your late planting needs. There are several group 5, 6, and 7 group beans that have yielded very well planted late. Go to plantationseedupdate. for details on Ultra Late planting.

Always follow label directions and wash all empties completely.

Wheat Grower Update

Wheat Grower update

03-30-2018

Wheat is  flowering from Tifton, GA south and should flower in Plains next week . Wheat gets FHB or SCAB during this flowering time from rain events.

Please use Caramba, Proline, or Prosaro at labeled rates . This approach should decrease your exposure to FHB while keeping the other diseases in check.

Foliar insecticide treatments for aphid and stink bug control can be added per label. A well-timed  insecticide application of a persistent pyrethroid insecticide such as lambda cyhalothrin (Warrior, Karate, Lambda, Silencer, others) will kill aphids and increase yields.
